About this collection

These 25 images are a window into the story of my family. Even though there is tragedy, there is also love and the hope of a new generation. There are images of my parents in their youth before they met and later on when they started their family. It is a story of migration from the small towns of New Mexico and Arizona to East Los Angeles, California. World events played in part in my family’s history as well. My father enlisted in the Navy during WWII as soon as he was old enough and went through basic training in San Diego, California and was shipped out to the South Pacific. After the war he remained in Los Angeles. In 1948, with the encouragement of one of her cousins, my mother left the small copper mining town of Santa Rita, New Mexico and moved to Los Angeles. One fateful day in the early 1950s, my father walked into the café where my mother worked and they met, and eventually married and started their family.
